Wyatt Crockett

Date of Birth: 24/01/1983

Representative Teams

All Blacks
Crusaders
Canterbury

Position: Loose Head Prop

Biography: A rising star among New Zealand front-row ranks, Wyatt Crockett boasts considerable international experience at both age-group and senior level, having been a member of the New Zealand sides that won the Under-19 World Cup in Italy in 2002, and the Under-21 World Cup in Scotland two years later. He also featured consecutively in the Junior All Blacks teams of 2006 and 2007. The 13th Crusade provided the well-regarded prop with a special memory: Crockett rammed his way across against the NSW Waratahs to score his maiden Super rugby try. He'd had to be patient, as it came in his 32nd match for the Crusaders. He then added a second career try during the 18-10 win over the Sharks. He enjoyed an outstanding 2008 Air New Zealand Cup for Canterbury where he often had the upper hand over his front-row opposite and was considered unlucky not to make the end-of-year All Blacks tour. Crockett celebrated his 50th cap for the Crusaders in the hard-fought 13-10 victory over the Sharks in Durban.

He was first selected for the All Blacks at the end of 2001 but withdrew so that he could take time to decide on his sporting future. He played seven seasons for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL before switching to union.

Ross Filipo

Date of Birth:

Representative Teams

Crusaders

Position: Lock

Biography: One of the few Wellingtonians who genuinely feels at home in Christchurch, lock Ross Filipo achieved the honour in 2007 of being the equal leading forward tryscorer in the Rebel Sport Super 14 – with six tries scored. This included his first ever representative hat-trick during the Crusaders 53-0 annihilation of the Western Force at AMI Stadium. He then scored tries for the Junior All Blacks during their wins over Samoa and Tonga in the Pacific Six Nations Cup. The feats didn’t go un-noticed with Filipo receiving a long overdue Test call up against Canada before injury forced an early end to his season. While the 2007 campaign was Filipo’s fourth as a Crusader, it was arguably his best, as the big Wellington lock was one of just six players to feature in every match that the semi-finalists played. Filipo is also a Junior All Black and New Zealand Maori representative. He had a delayed start to the 2008 Crusade, being forced to undergo surgery on his neck, and didn't reappear until round nine against the Chiefs. Filipo has played for the Crusaders since 2004 but has played his representative rugby for Wellington during this time. From next season, however, he will stay in Christchurch and play for Canterbury in the Air New Zealand Cup. A skilful player, Filipo made the end-of-year All Blacks tour to the United Kingdom.

Leon MacDonald

Date of Birth:

Representative Teams

Canterbury
Crusaders
All Blacks

Position: Fullback

Biography: A Super rugby centurion, Leon MacDonald began the 13th Crusade by becoming just the fifth player to feature in 100 matches for the Crusaders. The All Black fullback missed just two seasons; once when he was drafted to the Chiefs in 1998, and then in 2004 when he played a season with Japanese club Yamaha, after debuting for the Crusaders as a 19-year-old in 1997. Such is the significance of MacDonald’s contribution, just two of his team-mates – Andrew Mehrtens and Daniel Carter – boast more than his Crusaders career tally of 278 points, while just Caleb Ralph has more than his 41 tries. The Marlborough-raised father of four played his 50th Test for New Zealand against Scotland at the World Cup. MacDonald had an outstanding 2009 Super 14 for the Crusaders, binding the young backline together with his experience. He announced his intention to play club rugby in Japan but the Crusaders will hope to see him back.
